Downloads Letter Template Following Use of Physical Intervention with a Student
While our focus should always be on de-escalation, there may be occasions when a member of staff feels it is reasonable, proportionate and necessary to use a physical intervention with a student, in order to keep everyone safe.
While we would not share the incident report itself, it is vital to keep parents and carers fully informed about what has happened, and ensure they are offered the opportunity to discuss the incident with any relevant staff members. Open, two-way communication underpins the restorative process, enabling schools and families to work collaboratively to find ways forward together.
Use this letter template as a guide to inform communication with parents and carers, transferring the contents onto headed paper and adapting any wording where necessary.
