Compassionate Approach to Attendance

In this episode, Clare talks to Mica Coleman Jones, Head of Provision at The Lilya Lighthouse Education Trust Ltd, about taking a compassionate approach to school attendance.

Mica talks about the importance of language and its power to shape our perspective on school attendance. They also discuss ‘big picture thinking’ and how being flexible and making reasonable adjustments can make a significant difference to children, young people and their families.

Mica is the co-founder and Head of Provision of The Lilya Lighthouse Education Trust, an educational trust set up in memory of her younger sister, Lilya. It is a new alternative provision in Nottingham that collaborates with families and young people to create a school which works for everyone. Plans include supporting local schools through training, consultancy, and collaboration.
