Videos Video: Affluent Neglect
Please note: this content was originally produced for international schools but is relevant for all educational practitioners who support children and young people who may be at risk of ‘affluent neglect’.
Affluent neglect relates to a specific type of neglect experienced by children and young people from wealthier backgrounds.
While they may have all their physical, medical and educational needs met, they may sometimes lack an emotional connection with their parents / carers. Because it differs from ‘typical’ neglect, signs of affluent neglect may be harder to spot in children and young people.
Join Global Director, Jonathan Newport, as he talks to Lana and Corby from Huili School, Shanghai about affluent neglect. In this video, they talk about ways to support children and young people who may be at risk, and explore effective strategies to involve parents and carers.
